Heroin, Prescription Drug Addiction Impacting Newborns

file8911262472629As the opiate abuse epidemic continues to claim lives, it also impacts a very vulnerable part of the population: newborns. Newborn babies whose mothers abused heroin or prescription drugs need to withdraw from those drugs once they are born. This can cause pain, trouble breathing, and inconsolable crying, and long term effects of the drugs can lead to a host of physical and developmental issues for the baby.
